The Rockleigh Fire Department is reaching
out for Rockleigh residents and individuals who work in Rockleigh Borough.
Prior experience
firefighting experience not necessary. Prospective
members must be at least 18 years old and willing to attend
a one-time training course for Firefighter I certification. Most of the 130-hour
FF I course is given at
local fire houses but, by necessity, some outdoor activities are scheduled
at the Bergen County Fire Academy in Mahwah.
There are
opportunities for advanced training, such as FF 2, FF 3, Emergency
Driving, Incident Command.
There
is a monthly 2-hour drill for each brigade. Under agreements with the Borough,
employers allow Day Brigade members to leave work for all drills and
alarms while continuing to be paid for their time:
Day
Brigade Drill: Usually 11:00 am - 1:00 PM on the 1st Tuesday of each
month
Resident
Brigade Drill & Meeting: Usually 1st Tuesday of each month at 7:00
PM
Approximately
six alarms of fire occur per year. Because the Bergen County Police
Officer on duty is the "First Responder" for all automatic alarms, false alarms
seldom occur.
Benefits
* Generous year-end allowances based on
percentage of participation *
(alarms, drills, and training)
*
Liability Coverage *
*
Exemption from Jury Duty *
To provide effective
First-Responder protection for the people who work or raise their families
in Rockleigh Borough, our goal is to maintain 14 to 18 active members.
Interested individuals who work or live in Rockleigh Borough are invited to call the Day
Brigade Assistant Chief, the
Resident Brigade Assistant Chief, the Chief of the
Department, or the Rockleigh Fire
Association Secretary.
The
R.V.F.D. had the first woman firefighter in New Jersey and continues to have
active women members.
