A.
MINIPUMPER R-1 SHALL BE THE FIRST DUE ENGINE
at all brush or woodland fires and has the following responsibilities:
1.
Locate
up-wind, down-hill, and not closer than 75 feet to the
burning area.
2.
Size-up:
Assess the situation and initiate the Incident Command
System. Advise responding companies of conditions and locate incoming
apparatus to best advantage.
3.
Specific Tasks:
a.
Advance first (left-side) 1½-inch
preconnect attack line, equipped with SCBA, to involved area. Use of AFFF
(foam) is sometimes recommended.
b.
Advance second
1½-inch preconnect attack
line, equipped with and using SCBA, to protect exposures.
c.
Confine fire
and, if possible, extinguish fire.
d.
Function as
Command Post.
B.
The SECOND DUE ENGINE (MAXIPUMPER R-2 or R-3)
to arrive on the fire scene shall have the following responsibilities:
1.
Stage at the nearest hydrant and prepare to lay-in a 5-inch supply
line to the scene.
2.
Lay-In the primary: 5-inch supply line from the nearest hydrant;
position by R-1 (unless ordered otherwise).
3.
Specific Engine Company Tasks:
a.
Supply water to R-1 by a 3-inch line.
b.
Advance a 3-inch line with a 2½"-1½"
gated wye reducer as far as possible
toward the burning area. Couple 1½-inch
or 2-inch attack lines to the gated wye.
b.
Advance 1½-inch or
2-inch attack line(s) as needed, equipped with and using SCBA.
c. Protect threatened
structures, as a priority.
d. Provide brush teams
of one (1) officer with a radio and three (3) firefighters carrying
among them the following tools:
(1) Indian Tanks of water
(2) an ax or chain saw
(3) a shovel
(4) a rake or broom.
C.
The SECOND DUE ENGINE (MAXIPUMPER R-2 or R-3)
to arrive on the fire scene shall stand by until needed or position to protect a threatened structure.
D. WOODLAND WILDFIRE: Call sufficient mutual aid pumpers
to assign one unit to each threatened dwelling.
