A. F.A.S.T. PURPOSE.A Firefighter Assist
Search
Team comprises two or more firefighters dedicated solely to search
and rescue of firefighters in distress. FAST
shall have NO OTHER PURPOSE during an incident. FAST
is requested upon confirmation of a working fire. Multiple alarm fires
require multiple FAST
teams.
B. F.A.S.T.
REQUEST PROCEDURE
1. ALPINE FIRE DEPARTMENT is the designated FAST
TEAM for Rockleigh. DUMONT
FIRE DEPARTMENT is the second FAST
TEAM to be dispatched.
2. Upon confirmation of a
working fire or upon development of a working fire. The incident Command
Officer (ICO) shall request dispatch of the ALPINE FIRE DEPARTMENT RESCUE
UNIT to provide a FAST TEAM.
3. Upon arrival at the
incident scene, the FAST team
leader shall report to an and remain with the COMMAND POST until such time
as needed to assist distressed firemen. Once the fire is declared under
control, the FAST team can be
assigned normal fireground duty.
4. When the FAST team is implemented to assist a firefighter in distress, they
shall be directed by the ICO and supported by fire-ground personnel.
C. F.A.S.T.
COMPOSITION AND EQUIPMENT
1. A FAST team shall consist of a minimum of two firefighters with a
dedicated piece of apparatus. The equipment on the apparatus must be
capable of FAST support.
2. The apparatus and
equipment of the FAST team
shall remain dedicated to the team and used for NO OTHER PURPOSE. However,
subsequent FAST teams (up to
three) may be supported by one dedicated piece of apparatus.
3. Each member of the FAST
team shall be equipped in the customary manner prescribed by SOP's,
including full turnout gear, SCBA and PASS alarm.
4. Each member of the FAST
team shall have a portable radio and use a frequency separate from the
fireground frequency, but available to the ICO at the COMMAND POST.
5. Additional equipment for
each FAST team member includes,
but is not limited to, hand tools, hand light and search rope.
