1. Engine company should secure a reliable water supply by
running a supply line from the nearest or assigned hydrant.
2. A "hydrant man" shall stand by the hydrant, ready
to charge the supply line on command. Once the line is charged, the
hydrant man may rejoin the company.

Organization.
a.
Hose teams shall consist of two
firefighters and one officer or leader all of whom operate in a strict
"buddy system."
b.
Hose teams will be designated as HOSE followed by the COMPANY NUMBER
and a LETTER ("HOSE-R-2-A").
c.
Personal gear. Each member of a
search team shall wear a SCBA pack with PASS alarm and be in full turn-out
gear.
(1) The SCBA mask will be
worn and in operation and the PASS alarm activated when smoke of fumes are
encountered, as well as outside at vehicle fires, dumpster fires and at
HAZ-MAT incidents.
(2) When the floor can
not be seen because of smoke conditions, the team will crawl on hands and
knees
(3) When a SCBA bell
sounds or ione member of
the team must leave the structure, both members of the team shall leave
together, immediately.
d.
Equipment. A hose team shall
advance one 2-inch hose. The officer or leader will carry one portable
radio and one hand lantern
2. Duties.
a. Advance the 2-inch attack
line towards the seat of the fire. If necessary, stretch a 3-inch line to
the point of entry with a 2"-1/2
to 1-1/2 gated wye reducer to
which the 2-inch line is coupled.
b. Conduct quick primary
search for possible victims and location of fire while advancing attack
line.
c. Provide internal
protection for search and rescue operations, including principal exit
route.
d. After primary search,
contain and, if possible extinguish fire.
e. Backup hose teams should
provide protection for a primary hose team or for means of exit.
f. In conjunction with a
search team, determine fire extension and extinguish.
3. Working with other teams.
a. The officer or leader directing the engine company operations shall
remain in direct physical
contact with the nozzle man. The company officer may function as
the second person on the hose line. The officer or leader shall report
progress and conditions to COMMAND at regular intervals.
b. Two hose teams should operate
together, whenever possible; the second providing back up protection
and exit security for the first.
c. Hose teams and search teams should
work together under strict and immediate supervision of an engine company
officer.
