Rockleigh Borough contracts with the Bergen
County Police Department for a full range of security services and resources. The Rockleigh Substation
of the Bergen County Police Department in Borough Hall as well as patrol vehicles are
provided by the Borough.
Uniformed patrol presence
in or near the Borough at all times is stipulated in the contract. The B.C.P.D. Communications Center
answers all enhanced 9-1-1 calls from Rockleigh Borough and dispatches
appropriate ambulance, fire department or police response. In addition to
patrol, the B.C.P.D. officer on duty in Rockleigh is the "first
responder" for all automatic alarms of fire. The B.C.P.D.
Communications Center dispatches the Rockleigh Volunteer Fire
Department and coordinates the communication needs of the Fire Department
at all incidents.
The B.C.P.D. provides an impressive range of
professional backup services and resources, including additional personnel
and vehicles when needed, detective and crime investigation services,
arson investigation, K-9 search teams, mounted unit, emergency management
resources, and hazardous material response teams.
The relationship between Rockleigh Borough and the Bergen
County Police Department goes back over 30 years and is an outstanding example of the principle of shared
community resources.
