The Rockleigh Borough Board of Education is a five-member board with the
members appointed by the mayor since 2005. The district's last appointed
term expires in 2007 at which time the board will consist entirely of
mayoral appointees.
Rockleigh Borough is a "sending district" in that there is no public
school within the Borough, except for three special-education schools
administered by Bergen County. The Borough of Northvale is the "receiving
district" for elementary public school children who reside in Rockleigh.
Northvale's
Thomas Jefferson Elementary School provides kindergarten through fourth
grade. The Nathan Hale Middle School continues with fifth through eighth
grades.
The Northern Valley Regional High School at Old Tappan, a nationally
ranked high school, receives older children from Rockleigh Borough. The Rockleigh
Borough Board of Education pays both tuition for Rockleigh
students at these schools and contracts for bus transportation.
There are truly outstanding private schools and libraries in the
area. The Rockleigh Borough Board of Education reimburses a portion of transportation expense for private school.
