The Health Officer is responsible for enforcing Federal, State and Local
laws pertaining to the health and safety of Rockleigh Borough.
The Health
Officer's responsibilities fall under a wide variety of
disciplines including: food safety, occupational health, well-water
supply and testing, septic tank and sanitation requirements, environmental contamination (water, air, solid waste), noise abatement,
pesticides, rodent control and rabies dog bite follow-up, and
enforcement of appropriate section of the Code of Rockleigh Borough.
The Health Officer's work also involves the Retail Food Program. The
Health Officer primarily looks for violations of the State's Sanitary Code
involving food handling, hygiene and other potential health problems.
The Rockleigh
Board of Health consists of five (5) regular members who are
volunteers and do not receive a stipend.
Rockleigh Borough
contracts with the Borough of Closter for Health Department support
services. Closter's Borough's Health Office consists of four salaried
employees: Mr. Louis Apa, Health Officer; Mrs. Elvira Testa Caputo,
Secretary-Registrar-Licensing Official; Mrs. Christine Contillo, Nurse;
and Mrs. Bonnie Switzer, Deputy Registrar.
